Learn more about what to expect from the program and about your fellow 2023 cohort. 10:15 am - 11:15 am: Networking for Success Hosted by Assistant Dean for Access, Diversity and Inclusion, Natural Sciences and Engineering, Abreeotta J. Williams-Jones, Ph.D. This workshop will explore the craft of networking, particularly addressing ways to communicate effectively with faculty and network with university administrators when exploring graduate programs. 11:30 am - 12:30 pm: Graduate Student Panel: Why Graduate School Hear firsthand from current graduate students at Princeton University about their journey to one of the most prestigious institutions in the nation, and how they navigated different pathways to Graduate School. During this one-hour Q&A panel discussion, you’ll hear candid stories about challenges. motivations, and expectations during and beyond graduate school. The panel will feature: TBD 1:00 pm - 2:30 pm: P3 Keynote - The Hidden Curriculum of Grad School Admissions: What You Need To Know Before Applying Hosted by Dra. Yvette Martínez-Vu, Grad School Femtoring Higher education is full of unspoken rules, which can be especially frustrating if you are a first-generation, BIPOC, or someone who is already navigating compounding sets of challenges. In this dynamic talk, you’ll learn the steps required to successfully navigate the graduate school admissions process and how you can take charge of your application process without compromising your goals and vision. 2:45 pm - 3:45 pm: LinkedIn to Network for Success Hosted by Associate Dean and Director of Professional Development, Eva Kubu. P3 Scholars will have an opportunity to learn about maximizing their scholarly potential and strategic career planning utilizing the valuable network and tools of LinkedIn. 4:15 pm - 5:15 pm: Princeton University Self-Guided Walking Campus Tours and Graduate Student Housing Tour (*Optional) P3 participants will have the opportunity to take a bus ride around campus and briefly visit some of the Princeton University graduate student housing complexes. Tours will depart from the Carl Fields Center for Equity and Cultural Understanding and will stop at The Graduate College, Lakeside Apartments, Lawrence Apartments, and the newly built Meadows. Students will have the opportunity to explore inside of the Graduate College, a common first-year housing complex, and briefly explore the Lakeside Apartments Commons Room. *Tours are optional and limited to shuttle capacity. Scholars may take the opportunity to walk around campus, explore nearby departments, work independently, or simply rest. 5:30 pm - 6:30pm: P3 Scholars Dinner Keynote address by Rodney Priestley, Dean of the Graduate School, Pomeroy and Betty Perry Smith Professor of Chemical and Biological Engineering. The P3 program welcomes all visiting scholars to enjoy remarks by the Dean of the Graduate School and network with other scholars and administrators. Tuesday, October 1st 8:45 am: P3 Breakfast and Check-In Breakfast will be served in the Carl A Fields Center MPR and will begin promptly at 9:00am. 9:00 am - 10:00 am: Welcome and Introduction to Princeton Graduate Programs Hosted by Joseph Lewis, Ph.D., Associate Dean for Access, Diversity and Inclusion at Princeton University’s Graduate School. Get a sneak peak into Princeton University’s Graduate Programs and what to consider as you begin the application process, including information about the Princeton Pre-Doctoral Fellowship. Learn more about the resources available to prospective students as they embark on their graduate journeys. 10:00 am - 11:30 am: Grad FUTURES: Focus on Future You(s) Hosted by Sonali Majumdar, Assistant Dean for Professional Development at Princeton University’s Graduate School. In this workshop, P3 Scholars will explore and plan toward future versions of themselves. Leveraging a design thinking inspired process of professional development, you will self-reflect, identify professional interests and future possibilities, learn how to communicate skills and come away with lots of affirmation, allies, and approaches! Students will also learn about the Graduate School’s GradFUTURES initiative, a professional development hub for Princeton’s graduate students. Learn more at https://gradfutures.princeton.edu/. 11:45 am - 1:15 pm: Departmental Information Luncheon P3 scholars will have the opportunity to casually meet and engage with faculty, administrators, and graduate students from different academic departments on campus. Scholars will dine in groups based on their programs of interest and discussion will be friendly and open. *Please note that department participation, particularly from faculty, is subject to availability. Not all departments will have representation during this session. 1:15 pm - 3:30 pm: The Graduate School Application Process Hosted by Princeton University’s Associate Dean of Academic Affairs, Geoffrey Hill Ph.D. (with a focus on Humanities and Social Sciences) and Associate Dean of Academic Affairs, Alice Seneres, Ph.D. (with a focus on Natural Sciences and Engineering).During this dynamic session, we will discuss the specifics of the application process and the particular areas of importance as they relate to field of study. We will dive deeper into the components of the application, consider best practices, and evaluate ways in which you can strengthen your application and represent yourself in the most impactful manner. After a general discussion, we will break out into separate rooms to further discuss relevant application components by division, including crafting an effective and impactful Statement of Purpose. 3:30 pm - 4:30 pm: Navigating Crossroads to Find your path and P3 Closing Remarks Hosted by Joseph L. Lewis, Associate Dean for Access, Diversity, and Inclusion at the Princeton University Graduate School. Dean Lewis will briefly share experiences with considering and reconsidering professional pathways, facing rejection in the application process, and overcoming challenges, followed by a recap of the P3 experience and farewell to our 2023 P3 cohort! 4:30 pm - 5:30 pm: P3 Closing Dinner (*Optional) P3 Scholars will have the opportunity to eat and further network with cohort members, explore campus further, or depart from campus.
